Snow Day

Eighteen inches of snow, ladies and gentlemen!

The schools closed down. The university closed down. State government closed down. Buses stopped running.

It's a thing of shivery beauty.

Joy approves.

She started out at the edge of the sidewalk where the snow was thin...

But soon began to blaze a wobbly trail for herself, all through the front yard.

When she had thoroughly explored the front yard, she headed around the corner:

After visiting our neighbor-granny at her kitchen door, Joy trailed along our backyard fence (look at that heavy-work!):

Finding that she couldn't get into our backyard because the fence was snowed shut, Joy plowed through neighbor-granny's backyard to her deck. Finding the deck-steps to be a solid hill of snow, Joy attempted one step... and then turned to me and ASKED FOR HELP!! (OK, so she used the "more" sign. It was still a huge, novel help request!)

So I boosted her up the steps, we went out the driveway and down the street...

and continued onward in our winter wonderland.

P.S. Rose is out sledding right now at a neighbor's. We'd left Joy at home to take an early-afternoon rest... but the neighbor's son was asking to play with her after his nap! So we'll be back out into the snow soon.

How fun that Joy enjoys the snow! Kayla hates the cold. I have to drive the car down the driveway if it's below freezing.

Such beautiful pictures...the snow, the glory of Joy wading through and all that entailed. :-) I long for some snow but am glad, for Nik's sake, we didn't get it; he hates cold, wet anything!

I want to borrow Joy and Rose. I couldn't get my boys outside for more than two minutes. They were all "Meh, let's go back inside and watch TV."

Heavy work indeed! And exactly my thought just before I saw your words, hehe!

Can I also mention the whole snowsuit, gloves, hat offer a 'sensory' neural experience that can provide motor benefits, some might say, behavioral, too.

With only her face experiencing the temp/wetness, she doesn't reject the experience. What is also nice is her drive to move. Well, that can be problemmatic in contained spaces. Wishing you the strength and opportunity to make the most of the snow all winter long. I guess it is a good thing you were in training to run most of the year! Barbara

So thrilling that she asked for help!!!

The winter wonderland is beautiful, but doesn't hold a candle to her joy in it!!!

I love that she was free to explore and make her way through the white stuff!

Is she not tempted to eat it? That's my problem with Rhema, she tries to feast on the snow.

I love these pics of Joy! You ended up with alot more snow than we had! I hope Rose enjoyed her time out in the snow too. And now, maybe you can get some if it to melt a bit for you. It got warmer around here today, so the snow in front of the door did melt off the sidewalk.
